Bhubaneswar, April 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished people of Odisha on Odia New Year.
In a tweet Modi said, “My heartfelt wishes to the people of #Odisha on Odia New Year and Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti.”
“I pray that all your aspirations are fulfilled in the coming year. May everyone be blessed with health and happiness,” wrote the Prime Minister.
On the other hand, the Odia New Year is being celebrated in a subdued manner for the second consecutive year, amid a ban on community gatherings and temple visits due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Maha Bishuba Sankranti is one of the major festivals of the Odia people. The first day of Baisakha, the first month of the Odia New Year, is called Maha Bishuba Sankranti.
The year begins when the rays of the sun straighten towards the northern hemisphere and the sun moves into Aries.
