Central Agricultural University, Odisha to come in Sambalpur

Bhubaneswar, August 18: The Central Agricultural University would come up in the western city of Sambalpur in the State.

Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Monday chaired a crucial meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan here to discuss the proposal for establishment of the central institute in Sambalpur, as per the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992.

In a post on ‘X’, Singh Deo wrote, “This proposed Central Agricultural University will be a game-changer for western Odisha – advancing agri-research, empowering farmers, and nurturing innovation in sustainable farming practices. It reflects our commitment to inclusive development and academic excellence rooted in Odisha’s soil.”

“Together, we move toward a more resilient and self-reliant agricultural future,” he said.

“It will help in producing graduates and post-graduates for global competitiveness in agriculture and allied sciences and will help in increasing productivity and developing sustainable and profitable farming systems in this sector. This decision will prove beneficial in ensuring food and nutritional security for the people by transforming agriculture and allied professions into profitable enterprises,” said the Deputy CM.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Finance Secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Secretary Suresh Kumar Basith, and OUAT Vice Chancellor Dr. Pravat Kumar Raul.
