Low-Pressure Area to Form Over Bay of Bengal; Squally Weather Forecasted

FEATURED Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around May 27. This system is expected to bring significant weather changes to the region in the coming days.

Under the influence of this anticipated system, squally weather with gusty surface winds likely exceeding 45 kmph is expected over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining northern Bay from May 29 to June 1. Similarly, along and off the Odisha coast, similar conditions are predicted during the same period.

Sea conditions are expected to be moderate to rough, posing risks to marine activities. Consequently, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea from May 29 to June 1 and along and off the Odisha coast during this timeframe.

Meteorological models indicate the low-pressure area will move north-northwestwards along the Odisha coast before heading further north, potentially enhancing the monsoon currents over the Bay of Bengal.

However, the probability of this low-pressure area developing into a significant cyclone or depression in the next seven days remains low, according to official forecasts. No major intensification is expected at this stage.

While the overall chance of the system intensifying into a depression remains low, residents and fishermen along the eastern coast are urged to stay alert and monitor official weather updates.
