Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reached a significant milestone in its agricultural export journey for 2025–26 by exporting a total of 41.35 metric tonnes (MT) of fruits and vegetables to prominent international markets, including Dubai, London, Birmingham, Rome, Venice, Dublin, and notably, France and Belgium.
This achievement is credited to the leadership of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, with technical and marketing support from Palladium India under the PSFPO (Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations) Project, supported by the Gates Foundation.
Mango Exports Take Center Stage
Among the exported produce, mangoes dominated the shipments, accounting for 30.53 MT of the total exports. Premium mango varieties such as Amrapalli and Dussehri have helped Odisha solidify its position as a reliable exporter of high-quality horticultural products.
A landmark moment was witnessed this week when 6.7 MT of mangoes were shipped, marking the first-ever export of mangoes to France by Golden Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited and to Belgium by Saptasajya FPCL.
These shipments officially added France and Belgium to Odisha’s expanding list of international mango export destinations.
Palladium’s Role in Market Access
Palladium India, acting as the Technical Support Unit for marketing under the PSFPO Project, has played a crucial role in facilitating these exports.
By identifying high-potential markets, ensuring compliance with international standards, managing logistics, and building the capacities of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across Odisha, Palladium has enabled smoother access to global markets.
This initiative supports the broader goals of increasing farmer incomes, strengthening value chains, and diversifying Odisha’s agricultural exports.
Radhamadhab Rath, a farmer member of Golden Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited, expressed his gratitude: “We never imagined our mangoes would reach France. This opportunity has brought better income and pride to our community. We thank the DA&FE Department and Palladium for guiding us through this journey.”
New Markets, Higher Incomes
The expansion into new export destinations like France and Belgium has not only diversified Odisha’s market base but also increased price realizations for farmers by over 60%, directly boosting their livelihoods.
The combined efforts of DA&FE, Palladium, and NABARD are opening new frontiers in agricultural trade, helping Odisha’s FPOs reach more than seven global destinations within a year.
Biswajit Behera, Project Team Lead, PSFPO and Associate Director at Palladium, commented, “We are proud to witness the growing impact of our efforts in Odisha. The recent successful mango exports to new destinations like France and Belgium—and the addition of new commodities—are major steps toward global market integration for farmers and FPOs in the state. Our vision is clear: strengthen FPOs as business entities, expand export opportunities, and help increase the incomes and resilience of smallholder farmers across Odisha.”
This momentum reflects Odisha’s ambitious targets to establish itself as a key agri-export hub on the global stage, demonstrating strong collaboration between government bodies, technical partners, and farming communities.
