Bhubaneswar, February 24: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 30,000 from a licenced coal vendor in order to allow him to run his coal depot smoothly and grant permission to transport coal.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were being conducted at three locations linked to Mohanty from DA angle.
“Today i.e on 24.02.2026, a short while ago, Sri Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle, Cuttack has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe Rs.30,000/- from a businessman (licenced coal vendor) in exchange for allowing smooth running of his coal depot and to grant permission to transport coal. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and seized,” said a Vigilance communique.
“In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 01 dated 23.02.2026 has been registered u/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 against the accused Sri Mohanty, Dy. Director of Mines. Detailed report follows,” it added.
