Well Marked Low Pressure Area Persists Over Bay of Bengal, Likely to Intensify

Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the presence of a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast. The system, which initially formed as a Low Pressure Area at 0830 hours IST on May 27, 2025, has shown signs of intensification over the past 24 hours.

As of 0530 hours IST today, May 28, the system remained nearly stationary and continued to persist in the same region by 0830 hours IST. Meteorologists are closely tracking its movement, and current models suggest that it is likely to move slowly northwards and concentrate into a Depression over the northern Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

This development could bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to parts of Odisha and neighboring states. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to potentially rough conditions. Coastal residents and local authorities have been put on alert, with disaster response teams on standby in vulnerable areas.

The IMD continues to monitor the system’s progress and will issue further updates as the situation evolves.
