Odisha improved from 13th to 7th rank in NITI Aayog School Education Index

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has registered a significant improvement in NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Index. From 13th in 2015-16 (Base), the State now stands at seventh in 2016-17 (Reference) among major States.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy and School and Mass Education Secretary Chitra Armugam on Monday apprised Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on this achievement at the Lok Seva Bhavan. The Chief Minister advised the department to keep up the good work and to endeavour for getting into top three.

At the 13th position among the States in the base year 2015-16, Odisha made a gain of six points to reach at seventh for the reference year 2016-17.  The State has gained an overall 12.4 percentage from 47.8 per cent (13th position) to reach at 60.2 per cent (6th position).

It may be mentioned here that Odisha gained 18.5 per cent to rise from 43.4 per cent to reach at 61.9 per cent in the category of governance processes aiding outcomes. The governance processes aiding outcomes consider the factors covering student-teacher attendance, administrative adequacy, training, accountability and transparency. The other outcomes that NITI Aayog considers are learning outcomes, access outcomes, infrastructure and facilities, and equity outcome. The State has also performed well in these factors.
