Nagarika Samaj demands CAG audit of power companies

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Nagarika Samaj
(ONAS), a civil society alliance, demanded a CAG audit of the accounts of the
power distribution companies in Odisha.

This demanded here at consultation meeting on the
‘proposed hike in electricity tariff.’
Panchanan Kanungo, former minister and president
‘Odisha Vidyut Upabhokta Mahasangha’ termed proposed hike move as anti-people
and urged the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to order CAG
audit of the accounts of the distribution companies.
Dr. D.K Roy, former OERC Chairman asked the civil
society to work as a watchdog and create awareness among the people to curb the
theft of electricity. It was also decided that a research cell has to be formed
by the civil society comprising experienced and technically qualified people to
go deep into this complex matter of the energy pricing and press the OERC to
order CAG audit of the distribution companies.
The meeting was attended by ONAS president Prof Jantrana
Parikshit, secretary Subas Chandra Panda, Sachikanta Pradhan, Joint Secretary,
Smt. Jyotsna Das, Tresurer, Lalit Mishra and B.K Panda.
