Odisha Govt plans swimming complex, indoor hall in all districts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: The State Government has planned to
construct swimming complex and multi-purpose indoor hall at all the district
headquarters from the current financial year. Similarly development of play
grounds in urban areas, which are shrinking in the process of urbanization, is
also in the focus of the Government, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on
Friday.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the award giving ceremony
for outstanding sports personalities.

“With a view to promoting sports and sports infrastructure
facilities at the block level, the State Government has introduced schemes of ‘Construction
of Mini stadium at Block Level.’ It has been planned to construct Swimming
Complex and Multi-purpose Indoor Hall at all the district headquarters from the
current financial year,” said the Chief Minister.
Patnaik said the Government accords great importance to
promote sports activities among the youth for ensuring their all round
development. It can also act as a powerful medium to deter vulnerable youth
from harmful or anti-social activities.
The Chief Minister further stated that an innovative plan of
‘Active Citizenship’ has been sketched to be introduced shortly through
Audio-Visual medium targeting college students to promote social values and
ethics. The objective is to inculcate civic sense, respect to women, empathy
for the physically challenged, abhorrence to substance abuse and patriotism
among the youth, Patnaik added.
The Chief Minister also felicitated 42 outstanding
sports persons on the occasion.
