Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: State Women Commission (SCW) member Snigdharani
Panigrahi on Wednesday laid emphasis on massive awareness on the need of necessary
arrangements at gram panchyat level for ensuring marriage registration in order
to protect women from cheating, fake marriage and also from domestic violence.

Speaking at a public awareness meeting on violence against women
held at Satyabhamapur village in Balianta block, Panigrahi said if we ensure marriage registration of
all the marriages then it will not only protect women from cheating, fake
marriages but also put breaks on violence on women in house and outside,
prevent child marriage.

“Though we all aware about different laws to protect women,
we most of the time fail to act accordingly, fearing social stagnation. There is a great role of elected women a
representative at panchayat level and SHG federations in wide spreading the awareness
on these issues,” added the SCW member.
The programme was jointly organsied by jointly by State
commission for Women and People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), the Hunger Project
and ALIBHA Elected women representatives Federation. Speaking on the occasion another SCW member Kusum Rath
discussed on various laws and legislation meant for women and called for to
take advantage of these legislations. She added that the women must have
courage, self confidence amongst themselves to fight any type of violence on
them.

Soudamini Mohanty, Balianta block SHG federation president also spoke on the occasion. As many as 13 women deposed before the SCW members and placed
their problems.
