Odisha CM writes to PM for Defence Industry Corridor and an Aeronautical University

Bhubaneswar, May 19, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen
Patnaik on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking establishment
of Defence Industry Corridor and an Aeronautical University in Odisha.
He highlighted that Odisha, with its
comprehensive industrial ecosystem and state-of-the-art infrastructure
facilities is most suited for indigenous design, development and manufacturing
in defence and aerospace sector.
Maintaining that Odisha is the largest
producer of steel, stainless steel and aluminium in the country with
availability of defence and aerospace grade products and the existing
manufacturing, O&M, testing and research ecosystem in the form of Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited, Aero Engine Facility at Koraput, Integrated Test Range at
Chandipur, DRDO Laboratory at Balasore and Ordnance Factory at Balangir,
Patnaik said, “The State is in advanced stages of promulgating a dedicated
defence and    aerospace manufacturing policy
to promote cluster based development of the industry.”
The CM stated that considering the
advantages of Odisha, the dedicated defence industry corridor should be
established in Odisha. The Aeronautical University can be established in
collaboration with HAL, he suggested.
