Bhubaneswar, August 3, 2018: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Satyajit Mohanty on Friday assumed charge as the sixth Commissioner of Police (CP) of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police. He took charge from YB Khurania.
On his arrival at the Commissionerate headquarters, Mohanty was accorded a grand welcome by senior police officials, including Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo and Cuttack DCP Akhilevsar Singh.
Last week, the State Government effected a massive reshuffle in senior Odisha cadre IPS officers and posted Mohanty as the new CP of the Twin City. The Government also gave new assignments to eight other officers as part of the reshuffle.
Since DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma had gone abroad and Mohanty was officiating as the DGP, there was delay in taking over as CP.
Mohanty, a 1988 batch officer, who started his career in 1990 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Jeypore, has also served in the capacity of Additional SP of Puri and SP in Koraput, Rourkela, Cuttack and Balasore. He also served as SP, Vigilance and Additional Transport Commissioner.
On promotion to DIG, he was posted as Northern Range, Sambalpur DIG, Central Range, Cuttack and Western Range, Rourkela. And on promotion to the IG rank, he was posted as Western Range, Rourkela IG and Fire Service and Home Guards.
Mohanty during his service career has received many commendations and rewards. Notable among them is the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2004.
Apart from his post graduation degree, Mohanty has done his LLB from Utkal University and Master of Human Rights from Pondicherry University. His area of specialisation is Human Rights and Police Reforms.
His publications include- Human Rights, Police in India: Role Responsibility and Accountability and Human Behavior and Police Ethics.
He is also a guest resource person of National Police Academy, Hyderabad, Gopabandhu Academy of Administration, Bhubaneswar and Judicial Academy, Cuttack.
Besides, he is an Executive Committee Member of National Police Mission of the Central Government researching in the field of police reforms.
He takes keen interest on sports and games. A well known tennis player of State police team, Mohanty is also the Vice-President of Odisha Tennis Association.
