Odisha CM announces gratuitous relief for 7.5 lakh flood-affected people

Bhubaneswar, September 10, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday reviewed the flood situation through videoconference with District Collectors of Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara and sanctioned Gratuitous Relief at Rs 60 per day for adults and Rs 45 per day for children below 12 years of age for nearly 7.5 lakh affected people.

Even as water started receding from Baitarani river, flood situation remained grim in several parts of the three districts. No loss of life has been reported.

He directed the Collectors of the three districts for expeditious damage assessment and availing of crucial services such as healthcare and drinking water supply in the flood affected areas.

It was revealed in the review meeting that about 7.5 lakh people in four municipalities and 903 villages in 17 blocks of the three districts have been affected by heavy precipitation and floods and 50,000 hectares of arable land have been damaged.

Around 40,000 people have been rescued and moved to shelters where they are being served hot cooked meals. More than 90 metric tonnes of cow feed has also been provided in these areas.

The CM also announced exemption of user fees for treatment and vaccination of animals for flood and heavy rain affected blocks in the
three districts.
