Uttar Pradesh: As many as 85 candidates are contesting for eight Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh in phase two of the general elections.
The parliamentary constituencies going to poll in this phase are – Nagina, Amroha, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. In 2014 general elections, a total of 125 candidates contested for these seats.
This time, the number of independent candidates has come down in these eight seats. While 40 independent candidates had contested in previous general election, this year only 26 Independent candidates are in the fray for these segments.
Uttar Pradesh has a total of 80 Lok Sabha constituencies which are going through seven phase polling this time. Voting for eight Lok Sabha seats in the first phase was conducted on April 11.
