Bhawanipatna: Maintaining that the Vedanta Aluminium has invested over Rs 50,000 crore in Odisha so far, newly appointed Vedanta Alumina CEO Rahul Sharma on Friday reiterated its commitment for holistic development not only of Kalahandi but also of Odisha.

“Vedanta has invested over Rs 50,000 crore in Odisha till date. This is the single-largest investment in the State. This investment has led to the creation of tremendous direct and indirect employment for the people in the State and resulted in the development of hundreds of SMEs and vendors in the downstream sector,” said Sharma.

Vedanta operates a world-class alumina refinery plant at Lanjigarh in backward Kalahandi district.

The Lanjigarh unit boasts a gender-diverse employee base. Almost 20 per cent of its employees are women which is substantially more than the five per cent average of the manufacturing sector, said Sharma.

Sharma said that the company has spent more than Rs 174 crores in community development in Odisha.

“Besides our school and hospital here, we are committed to the socio-economic transformation of local communities residing around the plant sites. We remain focused on developing modern health amenities, educational facilities for children and skill development programmes for adults.”
