Berhampur: The famous Landa Besha (tonsured persons) procession, a special ritual of the biennial Maa Budhi Thakurani Yatra, was organised to mark the ongoing festival here on Thursday.
Hundreds of devotees comprising children, youths and elderly persons got their heads tonsured in Bijipur area and moved in a procession through the city to reach the temporary shelter of the goddess at Deshi Behera Sahi. Chanting of “Buddham Saranam Gachhami” created an ambience of spirituality in the city. The procession was organised by the “Daridra Panchkshar Party”.
Organisation president Tuku Dalai, secretary Brundaban Parida and Mitu Majhi led the procession, among others.
The Land Besha procession was initiated in 1936 and has been organised during every Thakurani Yatra since then, according to historians.
