His contribution in the formation of Odisha as a State taking the people’s mother tongue, Odia, into consideration, cannot be described in words, and perhaps State Government knowingly named a park in Pokhariput area in Bhubaneswar after him to pay honour to the towering personality.
The legend, who was born in 1848, had a lot of firsts to his name. He was the first graduate, first MA, first advocate, first member of the Central Legislative Assembly from the State. Today is the 171st birth anniversary of the Madhu Babu.

The temple city of Bhubaneswar has a park dedicated to Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das, fondly known as Madhu Babu, in Pokhariput area. Covering around 30 acres of land adjoining the aerodrome wall, this park accommodates a large open-air gym, full-fledged skating rink, children’s play area with sandpit and both paved and unpaved pathways for walking and jogging.
The park also has a well-maintained garden and lawn in the middle, which houses the statue of legendary Madhu Babu. Equipped with all the essential amenities such as lighting, drinking water, toilet and more, the park serves as an ideal leisurely space for the people of nearby localities.
It is considered to be the largest park in the south-western zone of the capital city of Bhubaneswar.
