Raped young woman commits suicide to escape public shame in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A young woman, who was allegedly raped by a youth of her village on Thursday, committed suicide on Friday morning to escape from public shame at Bankamunha village under Dhusuri police station in Bhadrak district.

The 24-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house at Bankamunha village.

According to sources, one Santosh Majhi (35) of Bankamunha village entered the house of Barbaban Sethi of the same village on Thursday night while the latter’s sister was sleeping alone in the house and raped her.

The family members were watching a marriage procession in the village when the accused managed to barged into the house of the victim and committed the crime. The accused is absconding.

The local police rushed to the spot and seized a suicide note and started investigation into the mater. The police recovered the body and sent it for post mortem.

Family members alleged that she took this extreme step to escape from public shame. They have lodged a complaint with the local police about the rape.

Police launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
