Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of 16th Odisha Assembly began on Tuesday with the customary address to the House by Governor Ganeshi Lal.
Before the Governor address the House, he was accorded guard of honour on the Assembly premises. The session began at 11 am.
The Session would continue till August 8 in two phases. The first phase would be held between June 25 and July 3 and the second phase from July 11 to August 8.
Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present his first Budget for 2019-20 FY on June 28.
This will be first full Budget of the Naveen Patnaik Government after it voted to power for fifth straight term in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The interim Budget for the current fiscal was presented by the then Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera in view of the national and Assembly elections held in April-May.
Deputy Speaker’s election would be held on June 27. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has nominated Angul MLA and former Minister Rajanikant Singh as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Three-tier security and 28 platoons of police force have been deployed in and around the Assembly in view of the session to maintain law and order.
On Monday, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro chaired an all-party meeting for smooth conduct of the House.
