‘RTI activist’ arrested on extortion charge in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A man, claiming to be a RTI activist, was arrested by Keonjhar Police on charges of blackmailing and extorting money from people by threatening people to file RTI application against them.

As per the reports, the accused identified as Sashibhusan Behera (55) used to collect money by threatening people, including Government officials and private companies to file applications under the Right to Information (RTI) against them.

Sources said the accusedm a resident of Town police station area, was in operation since the last few years now. He first filed an RTI query with and then threatened the victims.

Unable to bear his trauma, some victims filed FIR against him at the Town police station recently. During investigation, it was revealed that Sashibhusan was indulged in this illegal activity.

He was booked on charges of cheating, extortion, and blackmail.
