Puri cop caught taking bribe

Bhubaneswar: Puri Town Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Biranchi Raula was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths of the Bhubaneswar division for demanding and accepting Rs 3,000 bribe for omitting a name from the chargesheet.

Raula was caught red-handed by the anti-graft body sleuths at 8 pm on Saturday while he was accepting the bribe from one Bijaya Kumar Khuntia of Radhagobinda Lane in Puri to exclude his name from the chargesheet in connection with a case registered at the Puri Town Police Station.

As per reports, Raula had been demanding money from Khuntia to exclude his name from the chargesheet which was to be submitted in a local court in Puri.

Khunita brought the matter to the notice of the Bhubaneswar Vigilance wing. Accordingly, a trap was laid. The cop was caught red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe at around 8 pm. However, seeing the Vigilance sleuths he threw the money. However, his left hand wash and wash of the cotton rubbed over the surface of white paper piece thrown by the accused gave positive chemical reaction leading to his arrest.
