Entire Odisha comes under lockdown to check spread of Coronavirus

Bhubaneswar: With the number of new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections rising by the day, the Odisha Government extended lockdown to the entire State with effect Tuesday midnight till March 29 to check the spread of the virus, prohibiting public movement except in case of emergencies.

In the first phase the State Government enforced lockdown in five districts and later extended it to nine more districts.

“To check the spread of the Covid-19, enforcement of lockdown in all 30 districts of the State will be ensured from today midnight. The lockdown will be in effect till March 29,” said State Government’s Chief Spokesperson on Covid-19 Subroto Bagchi here on Tuesday.

This implies that public transport services, including buses have been suspended.

However, transport of passengers for accessing medical aid will be allowed. Private vehicle movement will be allowed only for buying essential commodities and health services.

All shops and commercial establishments will be closed, including offices, factories, workshops, godowns. However, pharmaceutical units, food and related units (dal and rice mills, dairies, feed and fodder units) will continue to operate.

Banks, ATMs, telecom centres will also continue operate.
