Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced Rs 2200-crore package to help the poor and downtrodden to deal with the new Coronavirus aka COVID-19-related impact.
“Coronavirus has become a challenge for the entire world. It has affected the livelihood of poor people mostly. I announce a relief package of Rs 2200 crore for welfare of the poor to deal with the COVID-19-related impact,” said Patnaik in a video.
Patnaik said that under the Food Security scheme, Odisha Government is providing three months’ advance PDS ration to all the 94 lakh public distribution scheme (PDS) beneficiaries who will get Rs 1,000 each. It will cost Rs 940 crore, said Patnaik.
Patnaik also informed that Rs 1,500 each will be provided to 22 lakh construction workers. It will cost Rs 330 crore.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to maintain social distancing and stay indoors to keep the new Coronavirus at bay.
