Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion of Odia New Year, also celebrated as “Maha Visuba Sankranti”.
“Heartiest wishes to all the people of Odisha and Odia brothers and sisters from all across the world on the occasion of the Odia New Year and Maha Bishub Sankranti (Pana Sankranti) and Hanuman Jayanti. May this year be a year of peace and prosperity for all,” tweeted the President.
“Happy Odia New Year and Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti. May the coming year bring happiness and good health in everyone’s lives,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also took to the twitter and wrote, “I convey my warm greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the occasion of Odia New Year. May every life be protected from the glory of Lord Jagannath.”
Though the day was celebrated with religious fervour across the State with people distributing pana (sweet water) and thronging in different temples, but it was a low key affair due to the ongoing lockdown enforced to effectively contain the spread of highly contagious coronavirus infection. However, Odisha has already extended the lockdown till April 30.
