Two Maoists gunned down in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, December 13: Two Maoists, including a woman cadre were neutralised in an exchange of fire with Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans at Alampaka area in ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ on Sunday morning.

Based on reliable information, an SOG patrolling-cum-area domination exercise was launched on Saturday night in Singaram-Tentapalli area under Gajalmamudi gram panchayat under Jadambo police limits in Swabhiman Anchal, said DGP Abhay in a press conference in Bhubaneswar.

According to the DGP, on Sunday early morning (3.30-4.00 AM) Maoists resorted to sudden and unprovoked heavy firing from advantageous position on this SOG team and lobbed grenades, SOG team immediately took cover and asked Maoists to surrender. In order to save themselves SOG team fired in self defence in a controlled manner. With the benefit of dense jungle and difficult terrain, Maoists escaped from the spot.

During the search of the area, two unidentified bodies of armed Maoists were recovered along with incriminating camp articles. One dead male Maoist is identified to be of ACM rank. Other female cadre is important Maoist functionary.

One INSAS Rifle, two one SLR Rifle, ammunitions, three Maoist kit bags, other incriminating articles were seized from the spot.

“We are committed to make the area free from Maoists,” said the DGP.
