Odisha reports record 13,338 COVID-19 cases, highest ever deaths in a day

Bhubaneswar, May 7: Odisha on Friday reported a new high in daily COVID-19 infections and death counts as 13,338 more persons tested positive and 19 people died due to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Today’s surge pushed the State’s Coronavirus caseload to 5,12,4000. The active cases in the State stood at 86,950 while 4, 23,257 patients have recovered, so far, as per the data shared by the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Of the fresh cases spread across 30 districts, 6,914 were detected among people in quarantine and 5,324 were local infections.

The death of 19 more persons in the last 24 hours due to the virus took the total death toll to 2,140. Khurda and Sundergarh witnessed maximum four deaths each followed by two each in Ganjam and Puri districts.

Similarly, Angul, Bolangir, Cuttack, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi districts registered one death case each.

Of the fresh positive cases reported today, Sundergarh recorded the maximum 2,073 cases while Khurda with 1,828 cases stood in second spot followed by Cuttack (916), Kalahandi (580), Sambalpur (544), Angul (480), Balasore (437) and Bargarh (475), Bhadrak (381), Balangir (260), Boudh (128), Dhenkanal (142), Ganjam (312), Jagatsinghpur (168), Jajpur (318), Jharsuguda (306), Kendrapada (192), Keonjhar (179), Koraput (130), Mayurbhanj (257), Nawarangpur (282), Nayagarh (194), Nuapada (290), Puri (369), Rayagada (201) and Sonepur (159).

The other districts which detected cases below 100 are Gajapati (91), Malkangiri (60) and Deogarh (60).
