Cuttack, June 12: An elderly man was tied to an electricity pole and thrashed by fellow villagers in Gotara village under Mahanga police station, video of which has gone viral. The man was thrashed by the crowd after they suspected him of killing a goat, which was found dead near the victim’s jute farmland.
According to reports, Gourang Rout, a farmer, has cultivated jute in his agriculture field. On Friday, a goat owned by Kartika Chandra Sahu of the same village, found dead near Rout’s farmland.
Suspecting Gourang of killing his goat, Kartika along with Narendra Sahu, Debendra Sahu, Rabindra Sahu, Sarat Sahu, Subash Sahu, Tulasi Sahu, Manua Sahu, armed with sword, bamboo sticks, and boulders raided and ransacked the house of the former.
Later they dragged Gournag and his physically disabled wife out of the house and attacked them before tying and subsequently thrashing Gournag in an electric pole in the village.
Two cases have been registered and investigation is underway. Meanwhile, two persons have been picked up by the police from Gotara village in this connection.
