Vigilance raids properties of dismissed constable Prasanna Behera on DA charges

Bhubaneawar, October 28: Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids at five places associated with dismissed constable Prasanna Behera on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to a Vigilance department statement, the search operations are currently underway at Behera’s residential quarters in Kalpana Square, furniture shops in Dumduma and Lingipur, South City Bar located at Patrapada and double storey building at his native village Nuapada in Khurda district.

As many as five teams of the anti-corruption agency led by two DSPs, five Inspectors and other officers are conducting the raid on the strength of search warrant issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Behera, secretary of the Bhubaneswar constables’ association was dismissed from the services and subsequently arrested for allegedly running a bar in the name of his brother beyond its expiry period in the city’s Patrapada area.

His alleged collusion with the unlicensed bar came to the fore during the investigation of the murder case of Manish Anurag Das, son of senior journalist Navin Das. Manish and some of his friends had attended a party in the unlicensed bar on the night of October 9. Manish’s body was found in a pond, about 2km from the bar, the next day under mysterious circumstances.
