Amid protests, Mahima Dhaba near Kalinga Stadium demolished

Bhubaneswar, November 25: The joint enforcement of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Commissionerate of police on Thursday demolished the Mahima Dhaba, illegally built on a patch of Government land near gate number 9 of Kalinga Stadium here, amid protests from the locals, including large number of women and as well as the Dhaba owner.It is reported that owner of the Dhaba filed a writ petition in the Orissa High Court on December 13, 2017 to legalise the encroachment in his favour. The dispute was over the Mouza Nayapalli, Khata no.3293, plot 639/3368(pt.) for area 0.215 acre out of 1.530 acre.

The High Court has disposed of the matter on November 24 in favour of the State. Following the disposal and subsequent communication of GA Department to the civic body, such enforcement undertaken today, said a BMC release.

BDA Additional Commissioner Harish Chandra Nayak, BMC South-West Zone Deputy Commissioner Ravinarayan Jethi and Assistant Commissioner Lilanprasad Sahoo co-ordinated the demolition drive.

Four platoons of police, including two platoons of women police personnel were deployed under the direct supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Satpathy and Nayapalli police station IIC Sarat Kumar Sahoo. Before demolition of the structure the Dhaba owner gathered about 100 women who scuffled with the eviction team members and the police personnel.

But, the enforcement team convinced them about the fact and purpose of enforcement which took around one and half an hour. At about 12.30 PM the demolition started and it was finished at 4 PM.

Along with police, five enforcement squad from BMC (Central Squad and South West Squad) and BDA (Squad no. 1, 2, and 3) and four JCPs were engaged for the purpose.
