Bhubaneswar, December 5: The remnant of Cyclonic Storm Jawad over northwest Bay of Bengal near Odisha coast moved northeastwards with a speed of 25 kmph during past sux hours, and centered about 30 km southeast of Paradip, 120 km east-northeast of Puri and 210 south-southwest of Sagar Island.
As per the the latest bulletin of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, it is likely to move northeastwards, towards West Bengal coast and weaken into a well marked low pressure area during next 12 hours.
“The depression (remnant of Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD’) over northwest Bay of Bengal near Odisha coast moved northeastwards with a speed of 25 kmph during past 06 hours, and lay centered at 1730 hrs IST of today, the 05th December 2021, over northwest Bay of Bengal close to Odisha coast near Lat. 20.1°N and Long. 86.9°E, about 30 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 120 km east-northeast of Puri (Odisha) and 210 south-southwest of Sagar Island (West Bengal),” the bulletin stated.
Under its impact heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue at some places over the districts of Puri, Khurdha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak Balasore and Mayurbhanja till tomorrow morning.
The weather office also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Ganjam, Nayagarha, Keonjhar, Anugul and Dhenkanal during the period.
As the sea condition will be rough to very rough during the period, the weather office also warned the fishermen not to venture into along and off Odisha coast and northwest adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. It advised hoisting the local cautionary signal No-3 at all ports of Odisha.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall occurred in many places of coastal Odisha in the past 24 hours under the influence of the system. Highest 158 mm rainfall reported at Khallikote in Ganjam district while rainfall above 50 mm recorded at 12 blocks of the State and 20 to 50 mm in another 58 blocks.
Around 4,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in the State while about 400 pregnant women have been shifted to the nearby hospital. Total 267 NRDF, ODRAF, Fire Service teams have been deployed in the likely affected areas in a precautionary measure.
