Berhampur, March 9: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at five places associated with Jagannath Sethy, Executive Engineer, Rural Works (Electrical) Division in Berhampur, on charges of amassing property disproportionate to her known sources of income.
As per a statement of the State Vigilance Directorate, the anti-corruption officials were searching at Sethy’s house at his native village Puttabagada under Chhatrapur police limits in Ganjam district, two multi-storeyed buildings at Gajapati Nagar in the city, his office chamber at Ambapua here and four-storeyed building in Bhubaneswar this morning.
The house searches were being conducted by four DSPs and 10 Inspectors and other staff led by one Additional SP, on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge Vigilance, Berhampur.
Sources said Sethy at Berhampur and his son at Bhubaneswar locked themselves inside their respective houses, obstructed the Vigilance team forcing the Vigilance teams to enter inside the premises after breaking open the entrance doors.
The officials have so far seized over Rs 16 lakh in cash, gold jewellery, several bank passbooks, ATM cards and documents related to land and other documents belonging to Sethy.
The total valuation of the disproportionate assets of Sethy was yet to be calculated as raids were still underway.
