Centre notifies appointment of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

Odisha

Bhubaneswar, February 2: The Central Government has notified the appointments of Chief Justices for six High Courts, including the High Court of Orissa.

The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Social Justice on Friday.

Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, presently Judge of Patna High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium in November 2023 made the recommendations regarding the elevation of Justice Singh as Chief Justice.

The Collegium took into consideration the fact that the Patna High Court lacked representation among Chief Justices of High Courts at present.

The Collegium headed by ChiefJustice of India DY Chandrachud, accordingly, found Justice Singh fit and suitable for the appointment and resolved to recommend the same.

The post of Orissa High Court Chief Justice has been vacant since October 3 this year, after the retirement of Justice Subhasis Talapatra.

Justice Singh enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 after obtaining an LL.B. degree from University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre). He was designated Senior Advocate in September 2010 and was appointed as Additional Advocate General for Bihar in December that year.

He was elevated as an additional judge of the Patna High Court with effect from April 5, 2012. He was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in February last year.
