Odisha

Cuttack, February 7: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh took oath as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Wednesday.

Odisha Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath to Justice Singh as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court at the Old Building of the High Court.

On February 2, the Central Government notified the appointments of Chief Justices for six High Courts, including the High Court of Orissa.

Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh was the Judge of Patna High Court before his elevation.

The Supreme Court Collegium in November 2023 made the recommendations regarding the elevation of Justice Singh as Chief Justice.

The Collegium took into consideration the fact that the Patna High Court lacked representation among Chief Justices of High Courts at present.

The post of Orissa High Court Chief Justice has been vacant since October 3 this year, after the retirement of Justice Subhasis Talapatra.

Justice Singh enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 after obtaining an LL.B. degree from University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre). He was designated Senior Advocate in September 2010 and was appointed as Additional Advocate General for Bihar in December that year.

He was elevated as an additional judge of the Patna High Court with effect from April 5, 2012. He was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in February last year.
