Odisha Elections: CEO directs deployment of 20 companies of CAPF in politically-sensitive Ganjam district

Bhubaneswar, May 16: Twenty companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will be deployed in politically-sensitive Ganjam district for the 5th phase of election (second phase in Odisha) on May 20.

“A committee headed by Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha Nikunja Bihari Dhal has approved the deployment of 20 companies of CAPF in Ganjam district for the 5th phase of election on May 20,” said a CEO statement.

Directon came after a BJP worker was killed by alleged BJD workers late last night in Sri Krushna Saranapur village in Khallikote police station leading to law & order situation today with angry locals ghearoing the police station forcing the the police to resort to lathi-charge and imposing Sec144 CrPC around the police station.

Chief Electoral Officer Dhal has also instructed the District Election Officer and Collector, Ganjam to not to use these companies of CAPF as Reserve Force or Striking Force.

“These 20 companies of CAPF will be deployed for smooth and peaceful conduct of poll in different booths of the 8 Assembly constituencies going to poll on May 20,” it stated.
