Cuttack, November 16: As the State-run SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) Cuttack is all set to start heart transplantation within three months, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Saturday visited the premier institute and met the patient, who will undergo the transplantation.
Screening of the recipient is now being done prior to the transplantation.
“The screening process of the first patient for heart transplantation is underway at the SCB Medical College and Hospital. It is a historic day in the field of healthcare sector in Odisha. I met the patient today and interacted with him. Our Government is committed to provide developed and better healthcare to the people,” said Mahaling.
Recently, the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) on inked a pact with MGM Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Chennai for facilitating heart transplantation in the premier medical college. As part of the agreement, the Chennai-based hospital will conduct the first 10 heart transplants free of cost.
The MGM is imparting training to the surgeons at SCB MCH. MGM has already provided hands-on training to two teams from various medical colleges of the State.
The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department is being readied for heart transplantation.
Heart patients, especially those from the economically-weaker section of the society, will benefit from the collaboration with MGM Healthcare.
The SCB MCH has already opened a heart failure clinic in the Cardiology department where patients can register their names for heart transplantation after consultation with the doctors.
