Odisha CM launches 15 online services of Fisheries Dept

Bhubaneswar, December 3: In a major boost to fisheries sector, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday launched as many as 15 online services of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (F&ARD) Department through video conferencing.

The Chief Minister said that through this online services, fish farmers and entrepreneurs can avail various Government schemes online, sitting at their homes.

On this occasion, the F&ARD Department signed MoUs with entrepreneurs for cage culture fisheries in Hirakud Reservoir which will boost fish production by 1.24 lakh tons per year. Odisha has already brought a new policy to promote cage culture fishery in large and medium reservoirs.

The CM urged farmers and youths to set up large-scale agricultural enterprises adding that Odisha is providing financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for them.

He added that allied sectors have been identified as the growth propellers and allocation has been doubled for the sectors this year.

Cage Culture fishery is an emerging technology for intensive fish production. It can help in achieving self-sufficiency in fish demand of State, promote entrepreneurship and create jobs. Average Annual Growth Rate of the fish production in the State over last five years is over 14%.
