Cuttack/Bhubaneswar, March 30: One person was killed and three others injured as an express train derailed in Cuttack district on Sunday.
Eleven coaches of the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Nirgundi near Manguli at 11.54 AM, said East Coast Railways (ECoR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Ashok Mishra.
According to an ECoR communique, Suvankar Roy (22) lost his life in the incident. One female passenger suffered grievous injury and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury.
An ex-gratia of amount Rs 5 lakh has been announced to the next to the kins of the deceased. Similarly, Rs 2.50 lakh jas been announced for grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries.
Immediate medical assistance have been provided to the injured passengers, and the necessary compensation has been paid to the victims’ families.
Due to the accident, traim services were also affected along the line. Mail Express Trains are running in the Howrah-Visakhapatnam UP Line.

Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will hold the detailed inquiry of the incident of derailment of coaches of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations.
