PM Modi forced to repeal farm laws with eye on polls: Odisha SP

Bhubaneswar, November 19: Samajwadi Party Odisha unit president Rabi Behera on Friday said that the BJP-led Central Government was forced to withdraw three farm laws fearing backlash in upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and hailed the protesting farmers, saying their year-long struggle against the legislations would not be forgotten.

“Electoral defeats in the recently concluded bypolls, particularly the defeat in Hindi heartland forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rollback price of petrol & diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively. Similarly the fear of loosing in the coming election in five States at next year forced to Central Government to withdraw the anti-farmer, pro-corporate, three black agricultural laws, said Behera in a statement.

He also urged all the opposition political parties to be united during the coming Parliament Session to press the demand for resignation of Union Minister Ajaya Mishra Tenny, for his alleged involvement in the Laxmipur Kheri violence.

He also demanded that the Centre pay compensation to the 700 farmers who lost their life during the farmers’ protest.
