Bhubaneswar, June 10: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) across its jurisdiction with a series of awareness programmes aimed at promoting safe behaviour at railway level crossings and preventing accidents caused by unsafe road user practices. The observance was held in line with the global ILCAD campaign slogan “Alert Today, Safe Tomorrow”, emphasizing the importance of vigilance, patience and responsible conduct at railway crossings.
As part of the observance, extensive safety awareness campaigns were conducted at level crossing gates, railway stations, educational institutions and nearby habitations across the zone. Railway officials, safety counsellors, Civil Defence volunteers and field staff interacted with motorists, pedestrians, students and local residents to spread awareness about safe practices while crossing railway tracks and level crossings.
Through public announcements, distribution of safety pamphlets, display of posters, counselling sessions, awareness rallies and street plays, road users were educated on the need to obey warning signals and gate barriers, stop before crossing railway tracks, avoid trespassing and refrain from using mobile phones or earphones while approaching railway crossings.
The campaign prominently carried the message “Someone is Waiting for You”, reminding road users that a few moments of patience at a railway crossing can save lives and ensure a safe return to their loved ones. The initiative highlighted that trains cannot stop instantly and that strict adherence to safety rules is essential for preventing accidents and safeguarding lives.
The observance reflects East Coast Railway’s unwavering commitment to enhancing railway safety through public awareness, community participation and continuous safety initiatives. It also served as a reminder that safety at level crossings is a collective responsibility and that every responsible action contributes to safer journeys for all.
East Coast Railway appeals to all road users to remain alert, follow safety regulations at railway level crossings and join hands in making railway operations safer and accident free.
