Odisha: Bhadrak DEO staffer in Vigilance net

Bhubaneswar, June 5: Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a junior assistant posted at the Bhadrak District Education Office (DEO) for taking bribe of Rs 10,000.

Accused Srikanta Kumar Dash has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a functionary of a private school in Bhadrak district to process file for issuance of Certificate of Recognition in favour of the school.

According to vigilance officials, accused was demanding bribe Rs 10,000 to process the file for issuance of Certificate of Recognition.

Despite several requests made by the functionary of the school, Sri Dash insisted on taking bribe Rs 10,000. Upset over the illegal activity of the junior assistant, the functionary of the school reported the matter to vigilance authorities.

“Upon receiving the information, a team of Odisha Vigilance, today, nabbed Sri Dash while taking bribe Rs.10,000/- from the functionary. The entire bribe money Rs.10,000/- has been recovered from the possession of accused Sri Dash and seized,” said a Vigilance release.

“In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.09 dt.04.06.2026, U/s: 7 PC(Amdmt.) Act, 2018 has been registered against Sri Dash. Investigation is in progress,” it stated.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches were underway at two locations linked to Dash to probe possible disproportionate assets.
