Bhubaneswar, November 8: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has terminated Mo Bus a driver and a conductor after they were found to be under the influence of alcohol, said an official release on Friday.

On Thursday night, during a random checking by the enforcement team, both of them were found to be intoxicated while on duty, said a CRUT communique.

Two more Mo Bus staff were also suspended for a period of two months for indisciplinary actions during the duty hours.

“This breach of conduct not only compromises passenger safety but also violates the core values of CRUT, which prioritizes safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation. CRUT has recommended suspension of driving license of the driver found under the influence of alcohol for a period 6 months,” said a CRUT communique.

The safety and well-being of our passengers are our utmost priority, and any action that jeopardizes the safety will not be tolerated, it stated.

“CRUT is implementing additional measures to further strengthen safety protocols and ensure that such incidents do not recur. These includes more stringent random alcohol testing for crew, enhanced driver training programs, behavioural training for crew and increased monitoring of operational procedures,” it added.

Recently, while hearing a case, the Orissa High Court came down heavily on the CRUT  over frequent accidents involving the Mo Buses in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
