ECoR intensifies awareness drive among passengers for helpline no 182

Bhubaneswar, July 16: In
order to popularise the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Helpline Number-182
among train passengers, especially women, the RPF of the East Coast Railway (ECoR)
is taking all possible measures to make the passengers aware about the facility
to register complaints on issues they face during their train journey.
Awareness pamphlets/leaflets
are being distributed in trains to educate the passengers about the use of helpline.
Apart from this, special drives are being conducted to check unauthorised
hawkers, touting activities, travelling on roof, step or engine of a train,
travelling in ladies compartment resulting arrest and prosecution to 1101 unauthorised
hawkers, five touts, 635 foot board traveller and also 600 offenders travelling
in ladies compartments in last year.
In the current year from
January to June 2016, Railway property worth Rs 68,368 has been recovered with
arrest of 40 criminals, 17,320 offenders under various section of Railway Act
has been arrested and prosecuted, 17,213 trains were escorted by RPF by deploying
63,356 of staff, 309 offenders of Alarm Chain Pulling, 7,659 unauthorised
hawkers, 1.691 offenders found travelling in ladies compartment, 24 touts were arrested
and prosecuted and 354 minor children were rescued and rehabilitated. Forest
product worth Rs 9,00,540 have been recovered and handed over to concerned
department.
Apart from this, 21 luggage
lifters, 10 gold ornament/mobile snatchers, 12 pickpockets, 29 offenders of
dacoity/robbery and one drugging criminal have been arrested and action has
been taken against them.
