COVID-19 infections in Odisha take quantum jump as 8,386 more test positive

Bhubaneswar, April 28: The new COVID-19 infections in Odisha on Wednesday took a quantum jump as 8,386 more persons tested positive for the virus in last 24 hours in the State. Ten more people also succumbed to the virus during the same period.

The new positive cases which stood at 6,073 yesterday in the State, have shot up to 8,386 in the last 24 hours.

Of the 8,386 new case, 4,781 cases were from quarantine while 3,605 were local contacts.

While Khurda district, including Bhubaneswar alone recorded 22% (1,840 cases) of the total cases, Sundergarh reported 11% (933 cases).

Both Khurda and Sundargarh recorded 33% cases of State’s total cases.

With today’s figure, the cumilative caseload has gone up to 42,8515 in the State.

As many as 4,089 patients have recovered during the period pushing total recovery tally to 3,71,200. The active cases stand at 55,245 in the State.

The State also witnessed a distressing report of 10 fatalities due to the virus in last 24 hours. The cumulative death tally in State mounted to 2,017.

Puri and Rayagada districts reported maximum three casualties each while Boudh, Ganjam, Khurda, and Sundergarh registered one death case each.

After Khurda (1,840) and Sundergarh (933), Cuttack stood at third position at 496 cases followed by Jharsuguda with 433 cases.

Similarly, Nabarangpur witnessed a daily spike of 388 cases and Bolangir saw 358 positive cases. Angul and Sambalpur districts posted 347 and 307 cases respectively.

Seven districts witnessed below 300-mark in the daily new cases. They are are Mayurbhabhanj (289), Jajpur (270), Puri (259), Bargarh (257), Nuapada (233), Ganjam (209), Balasore (202).

Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh recorded below 200-mark other remaining districts witnessed less than 100 daily positive cases. With 21 new cases Dhenkanal remained in the bottom in the list.
