SC Collegium recommends Justice Rafiq as Orissa High Court Chief Justice

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Mohammed Rafiq, to Orissa High Court, Cuttack.

The SC on Saturday issued a statement on the transfer.

The office of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court had fallen vacant with the retirement of Chief Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri on January 5, 2020. Since then Justice Sanju Panda has been officiating as the Acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Justice Rafiq had been elevated to post of Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court in November 2019. Prior to that, he sat as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court, where he had also served as the Acting Chief Justice twice.

“The Supreme Court Collegium on 18th April, 2020 has recommended the transfer of Mr Justice Mohammad Rafiq, Chief Justice, Megalaya High Court to Orissa High Court,” said a SC statement.
