Odisha advances summer holidays in view of heat wave

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Tuesday advanced summer holidays for schools in view of a severe heat wave in the State. With the maximum temperature rising to 43 degrees Celsius at some places, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) announced closure of schools from April 18.

The SRC in a letter to the School and Mass Education Department said that summer vacation has been advanced in all the schools in the State, Government as well as private, which would remain closed from April 18 in view of the scorching heat.

Earlier, the State Government announced summer vacation from May 6.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions began morning classes from April 2 in view of the scorching heat. The timing of all classes has been scheduled between 6:30 am to 10:30 am.

Sweltering heatwave conditions continued to prevail in several parts of the State with maximum cities registering temperature above 42 degree Celsius thereby hitting the normal life. As many as 12 places in the State recorded maximum temperature of above 40 degree Celsius on Monday.
