Bhubaneswar, July 27: A day after arresting his five associates for helping him abscond, Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested BJD leader and BMC Corporator Amaresh Jena alias Bayan from Nilagiri area of Balasore district.
The Laxmisagar Police arrested Jena, , who was absconding ever since he was booked in a minor girl rape case at Laxmisagar police station here, from NIlagiri area, with the help of Berhampur police of Balasore district.
The arrests were made based on a rape case registered against him at Laxmisagar police station on July 23 on the basis of a complaint filed by a 19-year-old girl who alleged that the corporator kept physical relations with her promising marriage starting September 2023, when she was a minor.
As per the complaint of the girl, she she met Jena for the first time in June 2023 during Raja festivities and their friendship got strengthened. She has alleged that she had to abort a two-month-old pregnancy in February last year promising that he would divorce his wife and marry her.
The girl accused Jena of starting to avoid her since April this year and threatening to eliminate her unless she leaves Bhubaneswar.
Jena has been booked under BNS Sections 64(2) (m) (repeated rape), 89 (causing miscarriage without the woman’s consent), 296 (obscene acts in public), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) and under Section 6 of the POCSO Act (aggravated sexual assault of minor).
On Saturday, Laxmisagar police arrested five associates of Jena – Bibek Kumar Swain, Bikram Mohanty, Debendra Kumar Bhola, Suman Kumar Sahoo and Rajib Champati on the charges of helping the accused abscond.
