About 70 children from various schools of both English and Odia medium
participated in essay writing and painting competitions on the subject ‘My
living icon’which was held in the Mother’s Public School being organized by
INTACH. Besides, several members

the function. The event was organsied on Thursday to mark the 117th birth
anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Amiya Bhushan Tripathy, Convenor of the State Chapter,
addressing the students, explained significance of the heritage and the
inspiration they can draw from the lives and work of personalities, both past
and present, for conserving the glorious heritage of our country. He informed
the students that the house of Netaji in Cuttack
was renovated by INTACH, and advised the parents to take their children to
visit the place.

Bhubaneswar Chapter Convenor H. Balakrishnan informed the
students about the format and rules for the competitions, where essays of 750
words and paintings of only living icons were to be written and made. He
explained that prizes at both national and regional levels will be awarded,
including 10 all-India prizes which include visits to cities rich in living
heritage.

Many students painted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as their living icon,
while others chose personalities like Dr Sitakant Mahapatra and Dr Pratibha
Ray, champion of the disabled Shruti Mahaptra, champion of women’s education
Usha Padhee, tribal leader and social activist Tulasi Munda as also Sand artist
Sudarshan Patnaik.
