Atharanala bridge to get new look soon in Puri

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha
Government is all set to renovate and beautify the historic Atharanala bridge,
widely known as the entrance of Srikshetra and Puri town.
A meeting to this
effect was convened under the chairmanship of Tourism and Culture Minister
Ashok Panda here on Monday at the Secretariat.
The meeting revealed
that Centre has made a budgetary provision of Rs 475.33 lakh out of which Rs
95.07 lakh has already granted for the development of Atharnala.
The meeting decided to remove
the moss and mud heaped near the bridge, introduction of boating facility to
attract tourists to the historical spot, development of parking, footway,
lighting and landscaping.
Atharnala in Odia means
‘Eighteen Passages’. There are 18 brick passages on which the bridge has been
made.

Among others, Puri MLA
and Nabakarebala Committee chairperson Maheswar Mohanty, Tourism and Culture
Secretary Arvind Padhee and Puri Collector Dhiren Patnaik was present in the meeting.
