Biju Patnaik International Airport bags Kalinga Safety Award

Sep 26: The Biju Patnaik International Airport here was conferred with Kalinga
Safety Award (Performance Year- 2013), Sector- CSR at Odisha State Safety
Conclave- 2014 on Friday for the excellent CSR project taken up by the airport. 
Airport
director Sharad Kumar received the award from France K. Morule, High
Commissioner of South Africa in India. 
The airport
authorities had taken-up the initiative to re-model and re-furbish Bhimpur
Primary School, Bhimpur under CSR scheme which has been nurturing the
under-privileged children for a very long time.
“Since
the school building had turned to shambles due to unavailability of funds.
Seeing the ramshackle condition that the school was in, the airport authorities
stepped forward to save its plight and provide a cleaner, healthier and safe
environment for the children in the school,” said a press release issued by the
airport authorities. 
 
“It had
taken up the initiative of re-furbishing the half-built kitchen/mess of the
school and change the old PCC flooring of the school and replace it with tiles
while replacing the broken and unsafe stair-case with a safe and sturdy
stair-case and the dangerously low-heighted parapet wall was heightened to a
safer level. Along with all these amendments to building structure, two carpets
for the school hall and 62 two-seater desks for children were also provided. To
improve the hygiene conditions, separate toilets for girls and boys were made,
a water filter and two ceiling fans was also installed,” the release added.
