Kiosk to sale Chilika fish opened in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 26: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday inaugurated
a modern hygienic pre-fabricated fish retail selling kiosk namely Chilika Fresh
for selling fresh fish and crabs at Siripur Square near OUAT Campus in presence
of Agriculture, Fisheries and ARD Minister Pradeep Mahararathy.
The kiosk will cater to the need of fish eating population of
Bhubaneswar city.
Varieties of freshwater, brackish water and marine fish along
with crab and lobster will be sold in hygienic condition. Subsequently fishery products
like dry fish, canned fish and fish pickle will also be sold to the consumers,
said officials.
With the success of Chilika Fresh kiosk, more such kiosks
will be set up in various potential places of Bhubaneswar like in Shahid Nagar,
Jayadev Vihar, Unit-9, Pokhriput etc. After evaluating its success, similar
kiosks will be started in other cities of Odisha like Cuttack, Berhampur,
Rourkela and Sambalpur, sources added. 
The present kiosk has been set up with the financial support from
State Government and NFDB while OUAT has provided land for the purpose.
The Kiosk will be operated by FISHFED, an apex Co-operative organisation. 
Members of different Chilika and other
freshwater area Co-operatives will be directly benefited. Fish will be directly
collected from fishermen and sold to consumers to give them better price. Fresh
water fish like Rohu, Catla, Mrigal and other Minor carps and marine fish like
Hilsa, Pomfrets, Mackerel, Bhekti, Khainga, Prawns, Crab etc., will be sold,
added sources. 
Among others, Minister Tourism and Culture Ashok Chandra
Panda, MLAs Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Priyadarshi Mishra and BMC Mayor Ananta
Narayan Jena, Commissioner-cum- Secretary, Fisheries and ARD Bishnupada Sethi,
OUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Manoranjan Kar and Fisheries Director P. Krishna
Mohan were present.
